This week sets the tone for your year

Happy New Year! Welcome back to your inbox. But don't be tempted back into bad habits. Lets start the year differently.

This week - the first week back - allow me to suggest that it's not about hitting the ground running.

It’s about something quieter, and far more powerful: setting up the deliberate practice you promised yourself.

A gentle ease-in. The start of your healthy rhythms.

At the end of last year, during the G20, a friend of a friend relayed a story from someone working on the logistics for a visiting Head of State. When they were arranging his stay, he had two non-negotiables:

  1. Close to a Catholic church — so he could attend Mass daily
  2. Close to a safe outdoor cycling route — so he could get his exercise in every day

I loved the wisdom in that.

Somewhere along the way, he learned to protect his healthy rhythms… because he knows he needs them to lead optimally.

And by “healthy rhythms,” I mean the habits you said you’d build in 2026 — the ones that make you feel like you again. The ones that support your energy, your focus, your steadiness. The ones you always promised yourself you'd “start next week” when things calm down.

This is that week.

So… what did you promise yourself?

  • Go back to the gym
  • Sign up for the art/dance/music classes
  • Activate that podcast subscription
  • Read the book
  • Set the alarm for 5am
  • Walk the dog
  • Swim in the pool
  • Pray first and last thing

Whatever it is — start now, while the week is still spacious and people are easing back into the office.

Do it for yourself. Not to prove anything. Just to set the year up right.

That’s all from me.

Welcome back,
Anne

A pink sticky taped to a window with Heart patterned washi tape that reads "Keep the main thing the main thing" written in black sharpie

What started as a one-day-a-week gig turned into an every-available-minute gig… and somewhere in that blur, I lost sight of what I was building. Has that ever happened to you? "Keep the main thing the main thing" Last year, I put this sticky note on my windowsill — right in my line of sight — so I couldn’t miss it. The idea was simple: every time an opportunity...
